How to Find Materials

Law Subject Guide

If you're looking for a book by subject, browse our Law Subject Guide for Library of Congress location information.  Most LC Classified materials can be found on the fourth floor of the library.  EUCLID, our online catalog, notes location for fourth floor materials as LC Classified.

General Subject Guide

If you're looking for something non-law, try the General Subject Guide for Library of Congress location information.  Most of our non-law materials are on the fourth floor around range 401.

Our Online Catalog and More

EUCLID is the online catalog for all Emory University libraries. It contains the majority of the Law Library's collection, including all classified treatises, periodicals, Reserve and Reference materials, state codes, and reporters. However, some library materials are not included in EUCLID. Be sure to check the Card Catalog for any titles published prior to 1989 not found in EUCLID. EUCLID workstations are located on each floor of the library.

The Law Library has been a depository for United States Government Documents since 1968. The documents collection is located on the 1st floor. Documents titles from 1995 to the present can be found in EUCLID; some titles prior to 1995 are also in EUCLID. The titles and classification numbers for most titles held by the library can be located through the Monthly Catalog, which is shelved in Ranges 101-102. The library subscribes to a web-based version of the Monthly Catalog with holdings from 1976 to the present.

For articles published before 1980, you may use the Index to Legal Periodicals, a print product located at the periodical index table. The library publishes a Periodical Guide that lists all periodicals owned by the library. This guide is available at the Circulation and Reference Desks.

Our guide to the most frequently used materials in the Law Library includes floor and range locations. Many of these materials do not have call numbers. Be sure to check the Card Catalog or EUCLID for any titles not listed in our guide. Detailed maps of the library are available online. They are also posted on bulletin boards by the library's elevators.

After original card catalog records?  We've got that, too.  The Catalog, closed in 1989, is located to the right of the Westlaw standalone printers on the second floor. To locate up-to-date information, please use EUCLID, the online catalog. Many U.S. Government Documents are not entered in the Card Catalog or EUCLID. The Law Library holds approximately 360,000 volumes and over 5,500 serial subscriptions. The library is a selective depository for U.S. Government Documents and a full depository for publications of the European Union.

I Can't Find My Book

Can't find the book on the shelf?  Check re-shelving on the third, or fourth floor.  It's located at the front of the stacks near the windows on the left side of the building.  Not there, either?  Come to circulation and fill out a missing book request.  Our circulation detectives will locate the book for you in a day or two.  A note of caution:  in EUCLID, a location designated stacks means that the book can be found in the general library stacks, across Clifton Road and behind the Goizueta Business School building.
