Construction Scrapbook

Welcome to our online construction scrapbook!

Our next door neighbor, the Emory Clinic, is having a MAJOR remodel over the next months.   You can see how close we are to the work site. The Law Library will be the perfect vantage point to see (and hear and feel) these changes, so we thought we'd make an online scrapbook of the construction as it happens.

Today is commencement!

May 7, 2013

The blasting has abated, but the digging is going on full steam.

April 17, 2013

Spring has sprung! The leaves are already making it tough to get any usable pictures from this angle - I'll have to see what can be seen from the parking deck. Clearly the excavation is underway and you can begin to see the shape of the structures to come.

Things are starting to bloom here in Atlanta, not that you can tell from this picture. The site is humming with activity these days and the excavation has started in earnest. Not much blasting recently, but studying for exams has started so we expect it to recommence any day now.

March 11, 2013

Happy daylight saving time, everyone. As you can see, they've begun doing serious excavation for the new below ground parking deck!

February 28, 2013

So the preblasting walk-through inspection to almost 3.5 HOURS! Needless to say, this was very thorough and many folks were alarmed (at first) when the inspectors got to their offices. But excavation seems to be starting in earnest now.
Also nice to note, the University has been planting all sorts of trees in the past week or so around the Law School and Library, so it seems they are taking the pledge of no net loss of canopy seriously. Given how hot it is in Atlanta in the summer, this is welcome news. In this picture you can see not only the new trees waiting to be planted, but also those newly in the ground (they're skinny and still wired up).

More and more machines . . .
Next week we have a meeting scheduled with some folks from the building project to walk around the library and document it's condition (take photos, etc.) before the BLASTING begins. Should be exciting around here soon!

Another rainy Monday next door . . .

February 5, 2013

Look - more big machines!

January 14, 2013

Happy New Year! We hope everyone out there has had some peaceful and relaxing time off. Next door, the construction continues. Note we have many new machines over there, but the noise has died down. It's pretty rainy here today, but once this clears up we'll go see if we can get some pictures of the far side of the construction as well.

December 19, 2012

Things are winding down for the Christmas Break here. Exams are over and all our students and most of our faculty have left. Still, work continues on the hospital construction - note the addition of some very large new machines.

December 7, 2012

Today I was across campus in our Business School. From the top of their grand spiral staircase, I had kind of an interesting view of our construction - so here's a different angle.

December 4, 2012

Well, it's been a while, but the holidays kind of get everyone off schedule, don't they? Here's our construction site - things have been quieter lately, but there's plenty of activity. Huge trucks come and go, often early in the morning when one is trying to get in and park, but soon we should have some real excavation going on.

November 16, 2012

It's been a noisy week - in fact, one of my coworkers came downstairs on Tuesday saying he'd thought for a second there had been an earthquake. The earth movers are huge and very loud. They've finished removing all the trees and paving from the site and now it's looking like they're about to begin on the excavation phase.

November 1, 2012

Early morning on our construction site.

October 23, 2012

It's cooler in the morning these days, as you can see from the facilities plant steam, and we now have some earth-moving going on.

October 15, 2012

Early morning and it's pretty quiet (for now) next door.

October 11, 2012

A panorama of the Law School, Library and the construction site (thanks, iPhone5).

October 10, 2012

Well, as you can see, the demolition on the site has been rolling right along. We've lost a number of trees, including some beautiful old pecan trees (see the pictures from 9/28/12). On the bright side, we've noticed Emory's commitment to zero net canopy loss.
On a more personal note, our parking garage entrance has been moved from the east side of the deck to the back (south) side.

September 28, 2012

Well it sure has gotten noisy around here. The last of the Greek buildings have been demolished (as evidence by a thick blanket of dust on all our cars in our parking deck) and is being taken away. Starting next week, our parking deck entrance is going to be switched to the back - this may or may not cause mass panic. Check back to see how we fare!

September 24, 2012

Greek Houses are GONE - it's hard to believe but the abandoned sorority houses are gone after standing empty (and unpainted) for years. Note all the full dumpsters of rubble.

September 11, 2012

Blue protective fence goes up around the construction site. While it blocks some of the view and dust, it's probably not going to block much of the noise.

September 10, 2012

Construction site as seen from our parking deck 9/10/12. So far things are pretty quiet - you can here the big trucks and some rumbling from our offices, but nothing too serious.
